Textile exhibition
8 Cubic Meters
Amsterdam, NL

In Clover was an exhibition of textiles displayed in 8 street-facing windows. It was accompanied by a self-guided walking tour of the vicinity (see: 'in clover walking tour' below).

The textiles displayed are made of soft silks dyed with food waste and rust, illuminated by warm light, and juxtaposed with rusted metal cut outs. They take reference from the city of Amsterdam and the extensive on-the-ground research we did in the busy Binnenstad neighborhood.

The backlit textiles placed behind windows entices you to look within, much like the glowing warm light of the nearby canal houses at night. The design of the textiles are inspired by the architectural ornamentation of the city’s buildings, especially the stained glass, and they refer to the city’s ever ominous housing crisis. A state of being on the outside looking in.

In Clover - Art Nouvhoes walking tour
Amsterdam, NL

The other component to the In Clover project was a walking tour of the vicinity of the 8 Cubic Meters gallery. This was produced under the larger research project of Art Nouvhoes.

Concept & production by myself

Design by Michelle Parrott

The exhibition was presented within the larger context of the city. In both the exhibition and the tour, the city was presented as a gallery and a site of poetic contradictions. By guiding the visitors to these points, we let them get a taste of Art Nouvhoes. An accompanied text by Max offered reflections and musing to each site.

This project was supported by Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst & Buro Rietveld.
